It must be clear to readers what is advertising and what are articles written by the editorial team. Therefore, advertisements must be distinct from the layout – both on the portal and in the newsletter – so that readers are not misled into believing that an ad is an editorial article.
In general, advertisers are asked to use a different font than ours. On the website, the word “Advertisement” automatically appears just above the banner, but in newsletter advertising, the word “Advertisement” should be clearly visible at the top of the ad, unless it is beyond any doubt that it is an advertisement – to ensure compliance with applicable legislation. If we consider that the ad is too similar to the editorial content, we will request a font change and/or the addition of the company’s logo to make it clear that it is an advertisement. This is done to comply with the rules set by the Consumer Ombudsman. Furthermore, only your own business and products may be marketed – i.e., no misleading claims or negative references to competitors. All of this ensures compliance with the Marketing Act.
