Nordiske Medier achieves growth targets in a challenging market

Nordiske Medier achieves an acceptable result for 2023, where despite a decline in print revenue, the group succeeded in increasing its total revenue by nearly three percent compared to the previous year. – We consider 2023 as a "satisfactory year," given the challenging conditions in the economy. We have achieved growth and strengthened our position in the market despite the difficult circumstances, especially in Sweden, says CEO Jesper Hansen, Nordiske Medier, which is Scandinavia's largest company in pure B2B media production.

Nordiske Medier reported a profit before financial items of DKK 14.8 million in 2023, compared to DKK 21.5 million the previous year. The group’s revenue was DKK 205 million, which increased by 3% compared to 2022.

Subscriptions drive growth

It is primarily the subscription business that drives growth. And Nordiske Medier has experienced a significant increase in the number of subscriptions in 2023, from just over 31,000 to nearly 36,000 in total in Denmark and Sweden.
Continued focus on the subscription business will be crucial in the digital transformation.

– Almost 9 out of 10 subscriptions are now digital, highlighting the importance of our digital subscription strategy, says Jesper Hansen.

Despite expectations of higher growth in digital advertising, Nordiske Medier did not reach the desired level in 2023. As a result, the company has initiated several measures to address this and strengthen its digital banner sales.

Less print

The media company maintains the print advertising level in Denmark but sees a slight decline at the group level. – We have consciously reduced several publications in response to market trends. This will continue into the new year, says Jesper Hansen, who points out, however, that print ads are still an important and large part of Nordiske Medier’s business.

The media business in Sweden has faced particular challenges, but the events business is significant and performing well.

Strengthens Projektagenten

Projektagenten will increasingly become a key area for Nordiske Medier, and the organization is being established on a Nordic level.

– We are intensifying our already strong focus on Projektagenten and have made a number of hires in this strategic area, says Jesper Hansen.

Projektagenten is now established in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Projektagenten is Nordiske Medier's digital tool for monitoring construction and infrastructure projects.
Since the end of the financial year, Nordiske Medier has acquired full ownership of Nordiske Fagmedier in Norway, and in 2024, the company will strengthen its Nordic collaboration within Nordiske Medier.

The expectations for 2024 are continued growth, primarily driven by an increase in the digital subscription business and the increased focus on Projektagenten.
